The executive director of the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) Peter White has welcomed Scott Morrison as Australia’s 30th prime minister and thanked him for his service as treasurer.
Mr White has a solid relationship with Mr Morrison, meeting with him many times, including multiple times this year in his role as treasurer, to discuss issues affecting the finance broking industry.
“The prime minister understands the importance of financial policy and its impact on the lives of all Australians and I know he values the important role that brokers play in the mortgage lending market, and that unnecessary additional regulation isn’t the answer to the royal commission.”
Mr White’s long-standing relationship with Mr Morrison as treasurer ensures a link to the highest office in the country, providing an important conduit for the views of brokers.
He said he was now looking forward to meeting the new treasurer as soon as possible to brief him on the future direction of the industry and the important role brokers play.
“I also look forward to an announcement from the prime minister in relation to who will take the financial services portfolio following the promotion of Kelly O’Dwyer as Minister for Jobs, Industrial Relations and Women,” he explained, pointing out that in the light of the banking royal commission, this portfolio is more important than ever.
“I am travelling to Canberra soon to meet with all relevant ministers.”
